Project 3 – Sandfire Resources
Sandfire Resources NL became Australia’s newest copper-gold producer in February 2012 following the commencement of mining at the company’s flagship De Grussa Copper-Gold project. This project is located within Sandfire’s 100% owned Doolgunna project – a 400km2tenement package in one of Western Australia’s most exciting new mineral provinces, the Bryah Basin, located 900km North-East of Perth and 150km north of the regional town of Meekatharra.
In October 2010 Bostech secured a 7,500m RAB/Air Core contract with Sandfire Resources N.L. to drill on their high-grade copper-gold prospect at De Grussa, initially performing sterilisation drilling for the main open pit. This initial program was to lead to an ongoing working relationship. Apart from several brief interludes, drilling on the project has been almost continuous with the total number of metres drilled now in excess of 150,000.
The majority of the holes have been inclined at 60 degrees with hole depths averaging 70-90m. However, due to the generally deep weathering profile, a number of holes have been drilled to depths in excess of 160m through paleo channels containing extensive heavy clays and sands with high volumes of ground water. This is a great result given the initial contract called for RAB drilling down to 100m. The success of the Air Core drilling program is a credit to the safety culture and professional skills of our loyal field staff supported by the Sandfire Resources geological team. Given the potential of this exciting mine development, this partnership is expected to continue well into the future.
